Become a Volunteer

The St. John’s SPCA could not exist without its many dedicated volunteers. For more than thirty years, volunteers have helped thousands of unwanted, stray, abandoned and neglected animals directly at our Shelter and with our various events organized throughout the year.

If you are 16 years of age or older, are reliable, have a love of animals and would like to make a difference, consider becoming a valued SPCA volunteer.

You will be contacted when there is a sufficient need for new volunteers. Sometimes there may be a delay of 2-3 months or longer. The majority of our shifts are available during business hours. Weekend and weeknight shifts are extremely limited and there is usually a wait list.

Your commitment to volunteering is essential since our staff, animals and other volunteers are relying on you. We require a minimum commitment of one shift per week for a minimum of six months. You must be 16 years of age or older to volunteer with us.
