The registry offers assistance to those who have lost or found a pet by:
1. Providing a FREE 24 hour lost and found message service seven days a week.
2. Wearing our SPCA tag, pets can be reunited with their families without having to enter our Shelter (owners are traced by matching tag number found on tag with SPCA database).
3. Exchanging information about lost or found pets with other rescue groups, municipal animal control agencies, veterinarian clinics and radio stations.
Why are Tags necessary?
1. Less than 2% of strays that enter our Shelter have identification.
2. Pets that are found roaming without identification are more likely to be considered abandoned and are often kept by the finder.
3. More people are willing to approach animals who are wearing tags in the hopes of reuniting them with the owner.
4. Free-roaming pets without identification are more likely to be abused by strangers.
5. Pets wearing identification are less likely to be ignored by the public.
